Japan thru hike? A quest for cherry blossoms and sulphur baths

The road is quiet. The forest is quiet. The small villages I drift through – almost invisible – are quiet too. It’s a deep, enveloping stillness, the kind that doesn’t just surround you but slowly seeps in, through the air in your lungs, the sun on your skin, the yellow flowers brushing my hands when I walk past, staining my knuckles the color of sunshine.
