Donkeys, boulders, mud and roots

The little white donkey looks at me with big, round eyes until I hand him the grass I’ve picked. His pink snout is super soft. The other one is a little bigger and gray, and I pet his ears, which feel funny. 

 
Both belong to the Maine Roadhouse Hostel here in Stratton, Maine, as does the dog “Zeus,” who, in my opinion, is definitely a wolf. But at least he lets me steal his ball and throw it once. …
