We left Cappuccino’s at about 5:30 am for the 5 or so hour drive to the trail. A stop at Starbucks and at McDonald’s sustained us as we talked our way to the Gila.
The Gila Cliff Dwellings visitor center had a map of the fire closure we needed to avoid. With gear assembled we started walking at the trailhead. A delightful breeze helped to mitigate the direct sun easily penetrating the perfect deep blue sky. …
