Only two miles from where we made camp last night, another Hurricane Helene detour began. The storm heavily damaged the Virginia Creeper Trail, and repairs are currently underway. The AT had to be rerouted to avoid this construction. The reroute is 20.9 miles long, but technically it will spit us back onto the trail 22.9 miles from where we started. So I guess it’s like we’re getting 2 miles free.
