Something lurking out of sight..
On our journey through the southern portion of our Appalachian Trail journey we passed through the Southern Blue Ridge, a physiographic province rich in diversity. The high mountain springs brooks there are numerous due to the heavy rainfall, and the rocks metamorphic. All this leads to riffles rich in a variety of aquatic insects, upon which the subject of this post dines. Caddisflies, mayflies, beetles and the like tell tales in the waning light of these slippery specters to frighten their young larvae. …
