Even before getting on trail, there was a lot of trepidation about hiking the Smokey’s. The high elevation and rugged terrain make the weather especially tempestuous. Luckily our hike through the Smokey’s has been fairly mild.
Getting the Day Started
The park has strict rules about where thru hikers can sleep and how to store food at night. Because there is more bear activity in the park than most other places on the trail, we made sure to abide by rules set in place to keep ourselves and wildlife safe. …
