On the Coast, Finally!

The bike path stretched the entire 10.5 miles from Rhyl to Porth Eirias (and beyond). But after a few miles, the caravan and carnival rides of Rhyl gave way to open pastures. The green hills also pulled in closer to the shoreline providing some topographic and visual interest. The “crowds” also faded away (you know, a few other people on our trail). Eventually, it was just the coast, the bike path, and us. Above one steep hillside, and huge 18th century estate built in the style of a Norman castle sat surrounded by a sheer limestone cliff. Then the beach narrowed enough that we could hear small waves crashing against the rocks.

Kate looked out at the ocean and noticed the water had turned sea-green instead of the estuary brown we’d become accustomed to. This was what we came to see. It finally felt like we were finally walking the coast
