The GR 131 across Tenerife runs straight through the volcanic landscape of Teide. From the forests above La Esperanza, the trail steadily climbs into Teide National Park, where lava fields, volcanic sand, and wide-open views dominate the scenery. After reaching the highest point of the GR 131 on the island, a long descent follows through pine forests and cactus-covered hills down to the south coast near Arona.
In the early evening we arrive in Santa Cruz de Tenerife by ferry and leave the busy port city again fairly quickly. …
